FYI, that is called a “flat flex cable” (not “ribbon cable”, because that term refers to the thicker, lots-of-round-wires-stuck-together cables like the gray one for the hard drive), or FFC for short. Orange ones like this are made of Kapton (polyimide), not Mylar (metalized biaxially-oriented PET, like in Mylar birthday balloons). The reason people sometimes confuse them is that the metalized Kapton films used on the lunar module and such were often mistakenly referred to as Mylar, even though they weren’t! People often thought one side of those was gold-plated, but the gold color actually came from the Kapton.

As for the tear: if you can solder decently, you can use a fiberglass brush to carefully expose the broken metal conductor and then solder a bodge wire to fix it. Alternatively, if the ends of the FFC are standard, which they probably are, you might be able to buy an off-the-shelf replacement and then make a few 45 degree folds in it to make it lay properly. This isn’t a weird hack, it’s actually a common way FFCs are routed in commercial products instead of costly custom FFCs.

coming from the automotive industry i can give some advice when painting plastic.
1.scuff surface with abrasive cloth (rough side of kitchen sponge) and clean with alcohol
2. use plastic primer first
3. USE VINYL DYE for color its made to prevent the reaction from skin and oil he talks about in the video. (its used in the auto industry to paint carpet and seats and if used correcty in never comes off during normal use.)

In about.config, change apz.gtk.pangesture.delta_mode to 1 and adjust page_delta_mode_multiplier or 2 and adjust pixel_delta_mode_multiplier. Using 2 and 55 seems good.

Quick tip for the canopy, use butyl tape to glue it down. Butyl tape will hold it in place, however, unlike sealant/glue, butyl tape will not set up and will remain pliable allowing for differing expansion and contraction between different materials. It's also a lot easier to apply as it's a tape, but can be molded as needs be.
I'm a butyl tape convert.

I’m an electrician and I fit the JCC Fireguards, they have replaceable GU10 lamp, 30/60/90 minute fire rated, IP65 bezels for bathrooms, push fit loop in and out connections, can be installed with insulation above. Integrated fittings are nice but when they fail you have to change the whole light which is not very sustainable, potentially an electricians job and the model you haven may have been discontinued. With the JCC fireguard, a home owner can simply change the lamp. I won’t name names but there is a very big manufacturer who have identified a problem with their integrated downlights where the unit fails and the light starts flashing and they are having to pay electricians to replace them. Maybe a review of the JCC fireguard fitting would be nice on the channel. I see a lot of really bad DIY installations and this video I think will improve the standards of DIY wiring. I See so many install with single insulation exposed outside the fitting and wago or connected block joints not in an enclosure/box. Keep up the good work, I learn a lot from your videos on other DIY projects
